Survivalist Giveaways!

I found the LifeStraw giveaway to be particularly enticing, as survival is a normal part of the lifestyle in living on the Mississippi River, here. Water is, of course, something that is crucial, and I am always perusing good tools and devices to ensure a supply would be readily available, in any case.

Sweepstakes for Survivalists!

Survivalist is an interesting word. I think everybody has a bit of survivalist in them. The question is, what do you need to survive? Some want to survive the end of the world, some want to survive the day at work, some want to survive natural disasters, the list is endless.

For myself, I fall into the survivor of natural disasters category. I have survived for weeks, and even months, at home. This, through the number one record flood in our area of the Mississippi River, as well as the number three record flood and numerous others. The house sits on stilts, so I have been lucky that it is high enough to stay dry inside, so far.

For this reason, I generally keep at least two months worth of household supplies on hand. These include things for survival through any number of scenarios that might occur, such as an electrical outage, or an emergency escape from a house surrounded for miles by deep water with an unbeatable current.

My sons, on the other hand, are more into wilderness survival. They can pack a surprisingly light load, with an amazing amount of intricate and often home-made necessities, to cover a plethora of wilderness situations and needs. We have been learning these things throughout a lifetime, and it is not only practical, it is also fun. Yet, being prepared when the need arises has its own rewards.
