12 Days of Sweepstakes!

Today's sweepstakes are all offering 12 days of giveaways. The range of prizes is phenomenal! You can win anything from toys, to furniture, to more than a hundred of Oprah's favorite things!

Most of these sweeps are already in progress, so will be short running sweeps. There are daily winners, so chances will be good. Of course, daily entries always boost your chances, too.

Speaking of winning, in Winning News, I was notified earlier this week that I won a hundred dollars worth of freeze-dried food from HarvestRight. This was from a Thanksgiving giveaway that was on their Facebook page. It was a like, comment, share type entry, with three winners.

My years of living in a flood zone on the Mississippi River have ingrained the survivalist lifestyle into my being, so this was another exciting win for me. Food preservation was an important part of surviving there. You can't always count on your refrigerator or freezer to keep you going through natural disasters, as electrical outages are always a threat.

It was not uncommon for floodwaters to flow under the house (which is on stilts). It regularly rose over the deck landing, at times even rising to within arm's reach underneath the house. This was where the vehicles were parked under normal circumstances, to give you some idea of how high the water gets.

Thus, leaving the house at those times was rarely an option. Instead, I stocked up on what I needed, and stayed there, working online and living the lifestyle I had created out of necessity, for weeks on end. Meanwhile, the water rose, then it finally receded, and then it would rise again.

During the 13 years I lived there, I survived the number one, number three, and number four biggest floods on record in the area. These, in addition to many more.

During this time, I kept a seasonal deck garden so I could keep something fresh on hand. I also canned a wide variety of foods and was always investigating things like sun-drying, salt preservation, and any other method I could find. Though it did pique my interest, I have not yet had the opportunity to explore freeze dried foods as much as I'd like to. So, I am really looking forward to this!

Though I've been in my new home for just over a year now, I continue to have many of the same interests. Some skills are just indispensable, regardless of where you live. Plus, it's also fun and interesting to learn!
