Enter to Win a New Smoker!

I am a big fan of smoking foods in the summertime. I like to experiment with different woods, foods, recipes, and whatnot. I think one of my favorite recipes (though it is very hard to pick just one) is for smoked pineapple, using cherry wood. Yum, it is just delicious.

Of course, smoked pork bones work great for making soup stock to can, too. Oh, it is soooo good. I tried this when I found a recipe for a Vietnamese soup I wanted to make. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find the quail eggs for that in my locale, though it was otherwise delightful.

Then, too, there's smoked chicken, smoked fish, smoked pork, even smoked boiled eggs, smoked sea salt, and oh so much more! Wow. What luck that today's sweepstakes are so smokin' hot you could win a new smoker! What would you smoke with yours?

Mom and the kids are relaxing while getting some good reading time in, since Land O'Frost and Random House each offered some nice bundles of summer reads. Everyone is pretty hungry, though, and would certainly starve to death by the time Dad gets done grilling. Luckily, there's snacks for everyone, with the case of pork rinds that came with the cash! Oh, happy day!

Other News

Unfortunately, Kitsy Lane has changed to a new business format, and recently sent an email that they have sold out the inventory for these boutiques, and will no longer be supporting them. They are operating under a new name now. Hence, as I have decided not to buy into the new model, my jewelry boutique is no longer in operation.

The boutique was the reason for my Twitter handle, @TBarkingRaccoon, so I may change that at some point, now.

The name, The Barking Raccoon, came to be when I was raising two orphaned baby raccoons that my son and his friends rescued, to eventually release back into the wild. They lived in the house with us, and were polite and well-mannered.  We just loved them.

Our three dogs, all labs, were also "raising" them, and they all got along well, overall. The "babies," as we called them, learned to imitate the dogs in some ways, and one day, I heard one of them make a barking noise! I was so surprised!

That day I just said to myself, "My next business will be named The Barking Raccoon." So, that's how the jewelry boutique got its name.
