Design a Duck Stamp for the State of California! Nationwide Entry!

The state of California is looking for a winning design for its duck stamp. A duck stamp is something that hunters must purchase on top of their regular hunting licenses, in order to legally hunt duck. The proceeds from the sales of duck stamps are spent on waterfowl-related conservation projects.

The specific duck chosen for this contest is the Scaup. Artists may choose to depict either the Lesser Scaup or the Greater Scaup in their entries. Pictured above is the Lesser Scaup.

The artist may use the medium of his or her choice, though the entry must be hand-drawn and the artist's own original design. No photography or digital art is allowed, and other exclusions do apply. Entrants will definitely want to read through the rules for the specifics of size and other design requirements.

Entries will start being accepted on April 25, 2014, and will be accepted through 4pm on May 23, 2014. It seems safe to presume that this is Pacific time.

Entrants must mail entries to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Winning entry and runners up will be kept for display purposes for a period of time, all other entries will be returned by August 31, 2014, or the artists can pick them up.

This contest is open to U.S. residents, 18 or older as of February 19, 2014.
